
Global burden of cancer in 2020 attributed to alcohol consumption

- In this population-based study, we used the most recent International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) monograph on personal habits to select cancer types with sufficient evidence of a causal relationship with the consumption of alcoholic beverages
- The study found that 4.1% or 741,300 new cases of cancer in 2020 we attributed to moderate to heavy alcohol consumption
- The study was carried out to highlight the need for effective policy and interventions as well as increased awareness of cancer risks associated with alcohol consumption
